A cookie is a file that is downloaded onto your computer upon accessing certain webpages. Cookies allow a webpage to, among other things, store and recover information on the habits of a user’s, or their equipment, navigation and, depending on the information it contains and the way the equipment is used, they may be used to recognise the user. The cookies are solely associated with an anonymous user and their computer or device and they do not provide references that allow their personal details to be discovered.

3.2.- According to the aim
There are many aims for the use of cookies. According to the aim of the processing of the data obtained through the cookies, some of the aims may be:

a) Technical cookies: these are those which allow the user to browse a webpage, platform or application and the use of different options or services that exist therein, including those that the editor uses to allow the management and operation of the website and enable functions and services, such as, for example, controlling the traffic and notification of data, identifying the session, accessing restricted access parts, remembering the elements that make an order, performing the purchase process of an order, handling payment, controlling fraud linked to the security service, performing the entry request or participation in an event, counting visits for the purposes of billing software licences which the service works on (website, platform or application), use safety elements during navigation, store content for the broadcasting of video and sound, enable dynamic content (for example, animation while loading a text or image) or share content through social media.
Technical cookies shall be exempt from the fulfilment of the obligations established in article 22.2 of the LSSI when it allows to provide the service requested by the user, as occurs in the case of cookies listed in the previous paragraphs. Notwithstanding, if these cookies are also used for non-exempt purposes (for example, for behaviour advertising means), they shall be subject to these obligations.

b) Preferences or personalisation cookies: these allow information to be remembered so that the user may access the service with specific characteristics that may differentiate your experience form other users, such as, for example, the language, the number of results shown when the user makes a search, the aspect or content of the service in relation to the type of browser the user accesses the service with or from the region where the service is accessed, etc.
If it is the user who chooses these characteristics (for example, if they choose the language on a website by clicking on the icon of the flag of the corresponding country), the cookies shall be exempt from obligations of article 22.2 of the LSSI due to being deemed a service that was expressly requested by the user, and this as long as the cookies exclusively obey the purpose selected.

c) Analysis or measuring cookies: these allow the controller to monitor and analyse the behaviour of the users of the websites that are linked, including the quantification of the ads’ impacts. The information gathered by means of this type of cookie is used in the measurement of websites, application or platform activity, with the aim of introducing improvements in terms of data analysis of users on the service.

d) Advertising behaviour cookies: those which store information from the behaviour of users obtained by means of continuous observation of browsing habits, which allows the development of a specific profile to show advertising based on it.

3.3.- According to the period that they are activated
a) Session cookies: these are designed to gather and store data while the user accesses a webpage. They are usually used to store information which is only sought to be preserved for the provision of the service requested by the user on a single occasion (for example, a list of acquired products) and they disappear when the session has finished.

b) Persistent cookies: these are those where the data is still stored in the terminal and may be accessed and processed during a specific period by the cookie controller, and that may range from a few minutes to several years.
